I know the frustrations of learning another language—because I’ve lived them.
The first time was as a teenager when I became a foreign exchange student in the U.S. I had studied English for years, memorized endless vocabulary lists, and drilled grammar rules—but none of that prepared me for the reality of actually speaking. Conversations moved too fast, slang flew over my head, and by the time I processed what someone had said, the moment had passed. It was frustrating, embarrassing, and exhausting.
That’s why I became a Spanish teacher. I know what it’s like to struggle through language learning, and I also know how powerful it is to break through—to have your first real conversation, to finally understand a joke, to connect with people in a way you never thought possible. For years, I taught high school students in a traditional classroom, following textbooks and grading exams. But I saw how quickly they forgot what they learned, how they hesitated to speak, afraid of making mistakes. I knew there had to be a better way.
Language isn’t something you just study—it’s something you live. That’s why I created The Spanish Roots Membership—to make learning Spanish feel natural, engaging, and actually work. No boring drills, no endless memorization—just real-world Spanish that helps you connect, communicate, and truly feel confident speaking.
Years later, I found myself in the same situation—this time in Sweden. I had moved for work, excited for a new adventure, but without Swedish, I felt like an outsider. And then, I met the love of my life. Suddenly, learning the language wasn’t just a goal—it was urgent. I needed to connect with his family, his friends, and the life we were building together. So, I immersed myself. I made mistakes. And little by little, Swedish became a part of me.
Then—because I apparently like a challenge—I did it again. As an adult, I started learning French. But this time, I had something I didn’t have before: a system that actually worked. I focused on conversation, repetition, and real-world practice. And guess what? It worked.
